The Shelburne Junior C Veterans managed to pick up four of six points this past week, as they took both ends of a back-to-back series (6-5 and 12-6) with the Innisfil Wolfpack, before losing 9-5 in Pickering Monday night against the West Durham Patriots.
On June 10, the Ontario Lacrosse Association club stole one on the road in Innisfil as they came back from a 5-2 deficit, scoring four goals in a two-minute span with less than five minutes remaining to take the game 6-5.
John Nevills was the sparkplug for the Vets, scoring three times, while Tyler Mattice picked up his first win of the season in goal for the Vets.
At home June 13, the Vets had this game under control from start to finish, as they stormed in front 4-1 after the first period. The Vets stretched their lead in the second period, and 11-5 heading into the final frame in which the teams exchanged goals. Vets captain Corey Sinclair had the best game of his career as he blasted away at the Wolfpack, scoring seven goals while adding a pair of helpers to lead the Vets in their third win of the season.
On Monday night, the Vets paid for the long bus ride down to Pickering as they came out flat against the Patriots and found themselves behind 6-1 after the first and 8-1 midway through the middle frame. A goalie change seemed to spark the Vets as they pulled to within three goals at 8-5 in the third, however, they just couldn’t get any closer and the Pats added another with just about a minute left in the game to make the score 9-5. The Vets scoring was spread out with Dustin Early, Sinclair, Tyler Chapman, Josh Menzies and Wade Mackey scoring for the Vets.
Caledon
The Vets have this weekend off but again return to Pickering to face the Pats on Monday, before hosting the league leading Caledon Bandits on Friday, June 27 at 8 p.m.
