Peel Region councillors took time out of Thursday's council meeting to bid a fond farewell to senior staff member Andy Pollock, who has decided to step down from his post as Peel's director of waste management. Pollock has served as the region's director of waste management for more than seven years.
His next stop is Niagara Region where he will take on a similar role as director of waste. Pollock will formally leave his position sometime in August.
"I wanted to just publicly acknowledge his seven years of service for the Region of Peel," said Mitch Zamojc, Peel's commissioner of planning. "I personally want to thank him for his dedication, passion and hard work. He has taken us a long way in seven years with his knowledge and expertise. I've learned a lot about the waste business because of Andy. He has certainly helped me on my path as a commissioner. It will be a big loss. From our perspective he is certainly one of the leaders in the province in the waste business."
Pollock told council his decision to leave Peel was a difficult one and cited "family reasons" as the motivation to move on. "These seven years have been enjoyable for me. This has been a great place to work," Pollock said.
