It seems the annual Orangeville Fall Fair comes and goes all too quickly, only giving us that short yearly taste of what Orangeville used to be like. The members of the High Country Power Club are changing that by providing a second helping of the old life with its High Country Antique Power Club Annual Show this June.
“We’ve always run the (High Country Antique Power Club Annual Show) in conjunction with the fair, but last year was the first year we did it on our own,” says club member Earl Dodds. “It was very successful for our first year, and we’ve expanded it considerably this year.”
Expansions include booking the exhibit hall on the fairgrounds, which will be filled with indoor vendors, and a horse-drawn wagon ride to carry visitors from the main exhibits to the field demonstrations.
The show will be held at the Orangeville fairgrounds and will feature David Brown Tractors, vendors, entertainment by Digger Harrison and the Campfire Band as well as local talent, food, a flea market, demonstrations, and all things antique.
“We have 40 vendors booked so far,” says Lorraine Clark, also a member of the HCAPC. “Some are displays, some are demonstrations, some are going to be items for sale. There will be antique cars, toy tractors, farm machinery, wood carving, quilting, scrap booking, miniature gas and steam engines, jewellery, candles, farm memorabilia, stained glass — a whole bunch of things.”
This event promises to celebrate Orangeville’s “heritage and interest in how things were done in the old days,” says Clark.
“It’s a chance to look at preserving the past and a chance to see what farming was like years ago,” says Dodds. “It takes you back in time.”
This event is scheduled to take place on June 21 and 22, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free for children under 12. The High Country Antique Power Club is still seeking indoor and outdoor vendors. For more information, call Lorraine at 519-941-0170 or Brenda at 519-942-9167.
