Pre-audition jitters, backstage butterflies, the all-consuming rush as you deliver that crucial line; this can all be summed up in one word: live theatre. Ok, so it’s two words, but that doesn’t change the fact that the curtain is lifting on Tipling Stage Company, a new theatre group for Shelburne and area residents.
“It was something the Town of Shelburne decided to do,” says Michael Wilson, a dedicated pioneer of the company, about the development of TSC. “They put aside money for arts in the community and have wanted to create a theatre group for some time.”
Tipling Stage Company is holding auditions on May 25 at the Grace Tipling Concert Hall for its kick-off production of Plaza Suite by Neil Simon. Tipling is looking to fill 11 roles, and performers of all ages and stages of experience are welcome. Performance dates are set for Oct. 3, 4, and 5.
Wendy Walker, a retired police officer with an ample history in theatre, will be directing the fast-paced three-act comedy, which consists of three stories that take place in Suite 719 of New York City’s Plaza Hotel. Walker has been a member of the Caledon Townhall Players, and has directed plays in Caledon, Brampton and Shelburne.
Wilson has big plans for the direction of the company.
“I’d like to see us putting on three productions a year. It will probably take five years to get to this point; doing drama, comedy, murder mysteries, maybe a small musical.... Right now we are just trying to get the word out about auditions in May,” he says.
The committee meets the second Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. in the upper level of Town Hall. Anyone interested in auditioning for this play or helping out behind the scenes is asked to contact Michael Wilson at 519-925-2789 or Bob Turnbull at 519-925-2659.
