Growth and development conflict

Dear editor,
Rob Strang's column in the August 12 edition of The Banner was sandwiched by two interesting items.
On page 3 of the newspaper, there was an article about how Caledon is being squeezed between the province’s Places to Grow Act and developers. You reported that Silmar Development Corporation threatened to sue Caledon for $500 million unless its land is approved for a 21,000-resident housing development. Ontario's McGuinty government refuses to get involved in the dispute.
Meanwhile, in your real estate section, a "60-acre developer's dream" on A Line, East Garafraxa was offered for a sale price of $1.4 million.
Sixty acres of farmland is worth perhaps $180,000. Sixty acres of farmland rezoned as estate residential is worth 10 times as much. No wonder developers support sympathetic election candidates financially.
